Erasmus+ delegacy meeting with the Mayor of Elefsina

  Mr Dimitris Andronis , Ms Lena Pramantioti and Ms Constantina Voitsiou, who are teachers of the 10th Primary School of Elefsina met with the mayor of the city of Elefsina Mr Argyris Oikonomou in order to inform him about the European Erasmus+ eTwinning partnership (Let’s go cultural!) which their school coordinates.    The agenda of their discussions included topics such as: The aims of the partnership, the activities already carried out in the school, the dissemination plan and the involvement of the municipality of Elefsina with the aim of achieving the partnership goals. Mr Oikonomou was very interested in the partnership and its positive impact on the educational community and the Primary school students of Elefsina. In the end, a constant contact and communication among them was agreed upon, in order to reinforce their collaboration. Tasting” each other’s customs

On the first of March Greek people and especially children wear a white and red bracelet made of twisted pieces of thread, it is called Μαρτάκι or Mάρτης/ Martis. According to tradition, the people who wear this bracelet are said to be protected from the spring sun.  March bracelet custom has its roots in Ancient Greece, and specifically in the Eleusinian Mysteries, where people tied a thread (the Crocus) on their right hand and their left foot. March took its name from the Latin name of the god Mars (Mars = Mars). It is the first month of the Roman calendar and corresponds to month “Elafivolion” of the Ancient Greeks. In Byzantium they celebrated the first of March with great activities. The Greek partners shared this custom with their Erasmus+ partners and teachers and students form different schools prepared their own bracelets with great creativity and enthusiasm! Erasmus Days events

 The partner schools celebrated our Erasmus+ partnership by registering online and  organising Erasmus Days events in their schools. During these days they had a chance to point out the importance of safeguarding our tangible and intangible cultural heritage and developing intercultural understanding and acceptance. All partner schools adapted the activities to the restrictions and measures imposed by their countries against the spread of the COVID-19 disease. See more ...  

Rewind to March - Let's Go Cultural at Whitehouse Common

Do you remember what you were doing in March? It seems such a long time ago, and so many things have changed! At Whitehouse Common we were welcoming some very special visitors to visit our school and local area. Even then our plans were changed by circumstances but whilst we were unable to welcome our Greek and Turkish friends in person, we were delighted to host our Spanish and Austrian friends.  See more ...

Erasmus+ Let's go cultural: The 4th grade students of the 10th Primary school of Elefsina, being secluded into their houses due to the Coronavirus restrictions keep their spirits up through drawing colourful pictures and send their messages of love, solidarity and hope to their project partners and to all the people of the world.
