10th Primary School of Elefsina

Our school is situated in Elefsina, West Attica. There are 280 students in our school and 31 teachers. 

Students in our school study Greek, English, French, Maths, Geography, History, Science, Music, Physical Education, ICT, Civics, Religious Education and Drama. 

There is also a special Education teacher who teaches students with learning difficulties. 

Elefsina, our city, has a long history which dates back to Greek ancestry and mythology. It is the city of the ancient Greek dramatist Aeschylos. In the light of its historic and cultural heritage, Elefsina has been declared the European city of culture for the year 2021. However, it is heavily industrialized and poorly developed, therefore, our school has participated in several projects to raise environmental awareness and sustainability and, thus, make our city a better place to live. Its big industry has attracted a lot of people who came to Elefsina to work. Some people came from the rest of Greece, others from other countries such Albania, Ukraine, Venezuela, Armenia and Georgia. There are also some children whose families are Greek but were raised in Georgia or Russia but later, they came to live in Elefsina. 

Obviously, our school has students of multi- linguistic and cultural backgrounds and, therefore, different and varied learning needs. Through this project we expect to achieve integration and inclusion of all different students into our school community and culture and combat minority discrimination. This is feasible only through cultural awareness and shared goals by delving into local history and culture and comparing it with other cultures, all participants will devolop understanding of otherness, acceptance, and experience a broader idea of European history, culture and citizenship. At the same time, their linguistic and digital skills will be enhanced. Additionally, the teachers will share their experiences and expertise and will exchange good practices which will lead to personal and vocational development.
