Preparations for Transnational Meetings-UK

Preparations for Spain

Creation of the logo

Prior to the project meeting in Spain, pupils at all five schools were invited to some create a logo for the project. Each school then had to choose 5 from which to choose their winner. Each school's winner went forward to the final that took place during the project meeting to decide the ultimate winner that will appear on all the project publicity and documentation.

We had lots of brilliant entries from our pupils, many using the flags of the countries as their theme. The brief was to celebrate the culture of the five participating countries and there were entries that did this by identifying iconic buildings, people and other indicators of culture and incorporating those into their design. Some were incredibly intricate and detailed, others bold and bright. As many designs as we can will be displayed on the Erasmus+ noticeboard, but below is a video that showcases all of them.

In preparation for the meeting in Spain, UKS2 (that's the 9-11 year olds in Y5 and Y6) at Whitehouse Common created some handwritten and illustrated travel guides to sites of interest in our town - Sutton Coldfield; our city - Birmingham; our capital city - London; and also in the rest of the country - England.

WCPS research Christmas

In the preChristmas hullabaloo, 4MG at Whitehouse Common Primary in England wondered how Christmas was celebrated by their friends in our partner schools. So, armed with an iPad between two, they began a websearch.

Firstly they discovered that Christmas is not an official holiday in Turkey - we talked about why this was and decided that we would find out about a festival they do celebrate in Turkey later in the year. We found some photos of the Spring Festival and messages on trees that looked intriguing!
That left Austria, Greece and Spain. The children chose one of these and completed a fact file about celebrations in that country using https://www.whychristmas.com/cultures/
We tweeted some of our work, and then made a video of it all that you can see below.

We wish you all a very Happy New Year!
