Meeting in Turkey - 28th March -1st April 2022

Tasting Our Cultures
 

Monday 28th March 2022
Morning Activities:

The meeting started with a welcoming event with a gathering in the school garden: “Damat Halayı”. During this event the Turkish Primary and Kindergarten students and teachers presented local dances and music. Then, the guest teachers visited the school facilities and met with the local students and teachers. They all created a poster with the kindergarten students.

Afternoon Activities:

They groups visited a baklava workshop and watched the procedure. Then they tasted some local delicacies: “Börek, Baklava”. Then they visited the District Governorship, District National Education Directorate Visit. Finally, the visitors had the chance to admire “Yoros” castle and the view from the top. The view was breathtaking and they took plenty of photos!

Tuesday 29th March, 2022
Morning Activities

The teachers presented their good practices and discussed the project activities up to then. Then they worked with the Turkish students on the following topics:
The Greek Group- Spring customs in Greece
The Austrian Group - Traditional clothes in Austria
The Spanish Group - Local craft workshop
The British Group - Seaside Traditions
A skype meeting between the Turkish and the Greek students followed. The students discussed about their favourite recipes and then they played games. During lunch, the teachers tasted: “Simit, Açma, Poğaça” 

Afternoon Activities

In the afternoon the teachers visited Ayasofya and Dolmabahçe Palace. It was a very informative and entertaining second day!

Wednesday 28th March, 2022
Morning Activities

The day started with a presentation on the Turkish educational system and then the guest groups interacted with the Turkish classes on the following topics:
The Greek Workshop - Greek salad and Cretan dacos
The Ausrian Workshop - Apfelstrudel
The Spanish Workshop - Ensalada Murciana
The British Workshop - Eton Mess
After the workshops a skype meeting between Turkish and Austrian students followed. The students talked about their favourite recipes and they played games. During lunch the teachers tasted Çiğ köfte, içli köfte and drank ayran. Everything was very tasty!

Afternoon Activities

During the afternoon activities, the teachers visited the Topkapi Palace, the Blue Camii, Kapalicarsi and Misir Carsisi. It was a very interesting and enjoyable third day! 

Thursday 31st March, 2022
Morning Activities

The day started with a teachers’ meeting where the teachers discussed the activities up to that point and planned ahead. Then a presentation on the Turkish cultural heritage followed. Next the guest groups interacted with the Turkish students on the following topics:
The Greek group -Ancient Greek sports and games
The Austrian group-Body percussion
The Spanish group- Traditional Spanish games
The British group – Traditional songs and games
Finally, the Turkish students presented to the guests the traditional Turkish playground game “Yakar Top” and the guest teachers had fun playing with them. The visitors had the chance to taste “Mantı, trileçe” for lunch.

Afternoon Activities

In the afternoon the teachers visited “Otağtepe Fatih Korusu” and they had a boat trip on Vosporos Sea. It was a great experience for all and the visitors took plenty of pictures.

 

 

Friday 1st April, 2022
Morning Activities

The teachers interacted with the partner students on the following topics:
- The Greek group - Olive and olive oil
- The Austrian group - Hundertwasser: Art Lesson
- The Spanish group - Traditional dances
- The British group - Traditional crafts: Pottery: Art workshop
Next, there were songs and dances by the Turkish students in the playground and then the teachers gathered for the final teachers’ meeting where they filled out the evaluation questionnaires and discussed the activities they had carried out with the students. The groups tasted Döner, ayran, tatlı for lunch.
 

Afternoon Activities

In the afternoon the teachers visited Galata Tower and İstiklal street and said goodbye to each other at “Eleos” restaurant. All in all, the meeting was very successful!
